Morris Chestnut Wants ‘The Best Man’ To Continue: ‘We Want To Make It Into The Third Decade’

The Best Man franchise has been a staple in Black cinema for over two decades, delivering laughs, heartbreak, and unforgettable moments. From the original 1999 classic to The Best Man Holiday and the recent Peacock limited series “The Best Man: The Final Chapters,” the story of Harper, Lance, Jordan, Quentin, and the rest of the crew has continued to resonate with fans.
But is The Best Man truly over? According to Chestnut, not if he has anything to say about it.
Morris Chestnut Wants More Best Man
Morris portrayed the beloved football star Lance Sullivan in the beloved franchise. In a recent interview with Swooon, Chestnut revealed that he and some of his castmates are actively trying to convince director Malcolm D. Lee to revisit the franchise.
“I definitely want to come back to The Best Man franchise,” Chestnut revealed. “A few of us are reaching out to Malcolm [D.] Lee to try and convince him to do another one because that franchise has been around for a couple of decades now, and we want to make it into the third decade. I’d love to go back.”
Lance Sullivan: The Emotional Heart of The Best Man
Chestnut’s portrayal of Lance has been a fan favorite since the beginning. Reflecting on his character’s journey, he expressed pride in being the emotional core of the films.
“The films were funny, they were dramatic, but they were also emotional,” Chestnut said. “It’s great for an audience to come to a movie and laugh, but I’ve been fortunate to play characters that make audiences feel and root for.”
Fans have certainly been invested in Lance’s journey, from his emotional wedding to Mia in The Best Man, to his devastating loss and eventual comeback in The Best Man Holiday. Even in “The Final Chapters,” audiences were eager to see where life would take him next.
Will The Best Man Return?
While “The Best Man: The Final Chapters” wrapped up the story with a two-year time jump, showing Lance finding love again with Jasmine (Yvonna Pearson), there’s always room for more storytelling. The franchise has evolved over the years, proving that its characters and themes remain relevant.
Whether Malcolm D. Lee will revisit the story remains unknown, but if Chestnut and the cast have their way, fans might not have seen the last of The Best Man.
