Georgetown Co. school bus carrying 27 involved in Friday crash, district officials say

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A Georgetown County School District (GCSD) bus on a trip to Myrtle Beach was involved in a crash Friday morning.

According to GCSD, the bus was carrying 23 students and four staff members from Sampit Elementary School.

The crash occurred along US-521 on railroad tracks near Reddick Road when another vehicle struck the bus from behind.

“Five students were transported to Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital for evaluation,” officials said. “The four staff members and the remaining students were transported back to SES.”

At this time, no student injuries are reported.

The bus driver and driver of the other vehicle were both taken to an area hospital – Their conditions are unknown currently.

An investigation is underway by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
