Man, 66, accused of robbing Folly Road bank
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A 66-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a Folly Road bank robbery.
Officers with the Charleston Police Department responded to the South Carolina Federal Credit Union just before 11:00 a.m. following a reported armed robbery.
“The on-scene investigation revealed that the suspect entered the bank, brandished a handgun, and demanded money from an employee,” said Sgt. Anthony Gibson. “The suspect then fled the scene with the stolen cash. No employees from the bank were injured.”
The suspect, later identified as Carl Lee Mikell, was located and apprehended behind a nearby business. He was taken into custody on a charge of armed robbery and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
A bond hearing is set for Thursday afternoon.
