Charleston city officials host public forum discussing ideas for the Peninsula Plan
CHARLESTON S.C. (WCBD)–The city of Charleston will host a public forum on the Peninsula Plan to hear from residents about what they want to see in areas like Union Pier, and what factors are important to them when planning for the next 10-20 years.
Tuesday night’s meeting will review feedback from phase one of the Peninsula Plan, the listen-and-learn phase. Residents will also be able to discuss what they’d like to see regarding neighborhood design, mobility, water management, and economic development.
Officials say they’ll also give an update on establishing a peninsula waterfront development district and the future of Union Pier.
The Peninsula Plan will set a roadmap for its development over the next two decades, and leaders say they need the community’s help to ensure they get it right.
“Community members know the streets and experience what it is like to live in Charleston and work in Charleston on the peninsula. Community members know that better than any staff or consultant can know as much expertise as we have. Community members know their lived experiences better than we can, which is the type of information we need. It’s critical to shaping this plan,” said Chloe Stuber, a senior planner for the City of Charleston.
City officials hope to start the project’s second phase at the beginning of next week.
