SC State student, from Charleston, arrested after shots fired call prompts campus lockdown
ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCBD) – A South Carolina State University student from Charleston was arrested Tuesday following reports of shots fired on campus.
University officials locked the campus down at roughly 11:30 a.m. after receiving a report of shots fired in an academic building, according to Sam Watson, Director of University Relations.
Campus Police immediately responded and subdued the suspected shooter in a foot chase.
The Orangeburg Department of Public Safety charged sophomore student Rolanda J. Ifill, 19, from Charleston, with carrying a firearm on school property.
The lockdown was lifted just before 12:30 p.m.
Campus Police continue to investigate. Watson said the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is assisting in the investigation.
