SLED: Man found dead at Summerville home following Friday standoff

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) released new details Tuesday regarding an officer-involved shooting in which a man was found dead inside a home.

An officer with the Summerville Police Department (SPD) initially attempted a traffic stop on an individual, who backed into a police cruiser before taking off. The officer pursued the vehicle and observed the male run into a Lilac Drive home.

A standoff ensued; after an exchange of gunfire with officers, state police said a male was found dead at the home, which had also caught fire during the incident.

The agency said firearms were found near the deceased man. The man has not yet been identified by the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office.

SLED was called in to investigate the incident, which is standard for shootings that involve members of law enforcement. The agency’s arson and crime units also responded.

No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

The Summerville Police Department is expected to hold a Tuesday afternoon press conference to discuss the incident.
