Second suspect arrested in Dec. 28 shooting outside North Charleston apartment complex

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A second person has been arrested in connection with a deadly Dec. 28 shooting outside a North Charleston apartment complex.

Detectives with the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) arrested 21-year-old Kasaun Calvin Floyd on a charge of murder and possession of a deadly weapon during a violent crime for his role in the shooting that left 18-year-old Jacari Smith dead.

Floyd is the second suspect in that shooting, according to police. He was arrested Monday in the Summerville area by officers from NCPD’s Intelligence Led Policing Unit and the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

Carlos Bennett, 21, was the first suspect arrested in connection with the shooting. He was found in Hinesville, GA, and brought back to North Charleston on January 3.

Police responded to the Fairwind-Oakfield Apartments off Fairwind Drive around 3:40 p.m. for a reported shooting. Officers arrived to find a male, later identified as Smith, had been shot and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Both men are being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
