Student, 16, dies after being struck by pickup truck on Bacons Bridge Road early Monday morning

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A 16-year-old student has died after being struck by a pickup truck early Monday morning on Bacons Bridge Road.

The collision took place near Ridge Road around 7:32 a.m., according to Lance Cpl. Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP).

Trooper Pye said a 2023 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling north on Bacons Bridge Road when it struck the student, who was a pedestrian.

The student was pronounced dead at Summerville Medical Center, according to Dorchester County Coroner Paul Brouthers.

Trooper Pye said the driver of that truck, who was the sole occupant, was not injured.

The crash is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office.
