Pedestrian killed in Tuesday night crash on Maybank Highway: police
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A pedestrian was killed Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle while walking on Maybank Highway, according to police.
The incident happened just before 8:00 p.m.
Officials with the Charleston Police Department (CPD) said the pedestrian was in the roadway outside of a nearby crosswalk when they were struck by a Lexus RX SUV near the intersection of Maybank Highway and Main Road.
The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said there were no signs that the driver of the SUV was impaired or that the vehicle’s speed was a contributing factor. No charges have been filed as of Wednesday afternoon.
The roadway was closed for several hours while authorities investigated the crash.
