Police investigating attempted burglary at Mount Pleasant jewelry store
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities are investigating an attempted burglary at a Mount Pleasant jewelry store.
Officers with the Mount Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) were patrolling Towne Centre on the night of February 11 when they received notice of an alarm at Diamonds Direct, which is located just off N. Highway 17, in the far corner of the shopping complex.
At the scene, the responding officer stated that they saw an individual driving off from behind a nearby furniture store, Ethan Allen, “at a high rate of speed” with no lights on, according to an incident report. The driver was able to get away.
Officers observed that the business’s back door had been damaged and found a crowbar on the ground between Diamonds Direct and the cut-through to Ethan Allen.
“The back door, which was the one damaged, was almost completely broken into with the last line of defense, the bar along the door, being out of place and about to be unlocked,” officers said in their report.
The report does not state if anything was taken from the business, or if any arrests have been made.
An investigation is ongoing.
