Driver killed after hitting ditch, tree near Green Pond community

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A driver was killed late Monday night after overturning their pickup truck and crashing into a tree.

Lance Cpl. Lena Butler with the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) said the crash happened shortly before 11:00 p.m. on US Highway 17 near Green Pond Highway, which is about two miles south of Green Pond.

The driver of a 2004 Ford F-150 was traveling south on US Highway 17 when they traveled off the left side of the road, hit a ditch, overturned, and then struck a tree.

Trooper Butler said the driver, who was the only occupant, died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
