Local business makes bullet-resistant tech in the Lowcountry
SULLIVANS ISLAND S.C. (WCBD)–New bullet-resistant technology from a local security company makes protecting targets like homes, businesses, and schools more accessible and affordable.
Mayday Security Solution has introduced a life shield plus technology-certified bullet-resistant material that looks like an ordinary curtain.
“You get the safety, you get the security. It’s ul2 and ul3 certified, but at the same time, it’s like any other curtain or blind; it blends seemingly into the aesthetic of the school, and you don’t know it’s there until you need it,” said Marianne Cowell, the director of Mayday Security Solutions.
The products can easily roll out over entryways, doors, and windows, protecting potential victims from armed intruders.
“The panel drops in seven seconds so you can do it faster. You can do it with gravity. It will come down. It weighs about a pound per foot. The panel drops down. It’s cable guided or on a track, so you can’t push through it,” said Ryan Cowell, the CEO of Mayday Security Solutions.
The owners say their product is cheaper and more accessible than other solutions like bulletproof glass or metal shields but just as effective at preventing possible tragedies.
“Everyone always says we’re looking to buy time. That is what we need to get in place so we can handle the situation as we’ve been trained to handle the problem, and the life-shield plus stops bullets, it’s bullet resistant, and it buys time,” said Cowell.
