Families displaced after fire damages townhomes near Goose Creek
GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCBD) – Firefighters responded to an early morning fire at a townhome community near Goose Creek.
Crews with Pine Ridge Fire Rescue responded to the Devon Pointe Apartments and Townhomes off Snow Goose Circle around midnight Friday and found flames venting through the roof.
Deputy Chief Janene Schmidt said two townhome units suffered heavy damage from the fire while two units below them sustained water damage; however, the fire was stopped before it spread to other units.
All residents were able to get out of the building without injury. One firefighter suffered a minor injury and was treated and released from a local medical facility.
Deputy Chief Schmidt said it appears the fire started on a rear balcony of one unit involved. While it is believed to be accidental, the cause is still under investigation.
Four households were displaced. The Red Cross was on the scene during the night to help the residents.
Caromi, Goose Creek City, Goose Creek Rural, C&B, Summerville, and Central Berkeley Fire Departments assisted Pine Ridge Fire Rescue as part of a mutual aid agreement. Berkeley County EMS and Goose Creek Police also responded.
