Heavy rain, thunderstorms and flooding likely on Friday into Saturday
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A low-pressure system is forecast to sweep across the southeast on Friday bringing heavy rain, thunderstorms, and some coastal flooding to the Charleston area.
“Breezy conditions develop late Friday with showers and thunderstorms becoming likely,” said Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Josh Marthers. “Rain probability tomorrow is 90% and 80% on Saturday.”
Marthers said most of the rain happens Friday late afternoon and overnight into Saturday.
Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Charleston said downtown could see the greatest impacts with 2-3” of rain and flooding during Friday night’s high tide.
“Minor flooding is possible in low-lying and poor drainage areas, mainly across the Charleston tri-county area,” said forecasters.
Rain will continue into Saturday afternoon before clearing out. A clear but breezy and cooler day is forecast for Sunday.
