Fire alarm call leads to discovery of Fentanyl and other drugs inside Sangaree home
BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A call from firefighters led to the discovery of Fentanyl and other drugs inside a Sangaree home last week.
Officials with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) said firefighters were called to a Highland Avenue home on March 22 in response to a fire alarm.
While clearing the smoky home, fire crews observed several bags filled with powder in various colors, a pill press on a bedroom floor, and a blender covered in powder on a bathroom sink.
Deputies were called to the scene and identified the powders as suspected narcotics and notified the Drug Enforcement Unit, officials said. Detectives then confirmed that the powder field tested presumptive for Fentanyl.
Dietra Drayton, who told detectives she lived in the house, was detained pending the execution of a search warrant. The following items were found during the search:
- Over seven pounds of various color powders that field-tested presumptive for Fentanyl
- One pill press on the bedroom floor
- Six bags of purple and yellow pills
- Approximately 400 grams of Marijuana
- One blender covered in a powdery substance
- Digital scales and plastic bags
- One AR Pistol with a 31 round extended magazine
Drayton was arrested on charges of trafficking Fentanyl, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and distribution within ½ mile proximity of a school.
