Rain, thunderstorms likely as cold front passes through Wednesday

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Showers and thunderstorms are expected Wednesday as a strong cold front sweeps across the state.

Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Josh Marthers said a few thunderstorms could be on the stronger side with most of the rain happening in the late morning and early afternoon.

Gusty winds are likely outside of storms and heaviest rain is expected around lunchtime.

“This line of storms is going to encounter a little bit more of a stable air mass as it moves towards the Lowcountry, so I do expect the intensity of this to come down,” said Marthers. “I would not be surprised if a severe thunderstorm watch or tornado watch is issued out of an abundance of caution because of the history of this system over the past 36 hours.”

The sky will begin to clear up into the evening with some lingering showers.

Temperatures will cool into the upper 60s behind the front with dry conditions expected to close out the week.
