Waterway near Plum Island plant safe for use after wastewater spill
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Charleston Water System (CWS) said bacteria levels near its Plum Island Wastewater Treatment Plant have returned to normal.
The utility company issued a notice last week after a pipeline failure caused 9,950 gallons of wastewater to spill into Charleston Harbor.
People were asked to avoid the area until sampling confirmed that bacteria levels returned to normal levels.
CWS said in a Wednesday morning update that the area was safe for use.
