Body found near Sandy Island in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCBD) – The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a body was discovered in a river near Sandy Island.

Officials say deputies responded to reports of a body in the river around 3:45 p.m. on Sunday.

Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol, Midway Fire Rescue, S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the Georgetown County Coroner’s Office also responded.

GCSO says this investigation is ongoing.
