Clean-up begins at Mt. Pleasant Seafood following fire
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – A longtime Shem Creek seafood market began clean-up Sunday after a weekend fire caused major damage.
Mt. Pleasant Seafood released a statement Sunday about picking up the pieces following Saturday’s fire.
“Everyone is safe, and first and foremost we want to say: the shop will be back,” said Mt. Pleasant Seafood officials.
Owners say the fire started in the oyster cooler but was quickly contained by first responders. The fire broke out around 8 p.m. on Saturday and was under control by 8:30 p.m.
“As we assess damages in the coming days, we ask that you continue to support other local small businesses, because if the last 24 hours have taught us anything, it’s this community’s strength that keeps us going each and every day,” Mt. Pleasant Seafood added.
Mount Pleasant Seafood has been operating on Shem Creek for more than 75 years.
