SC Works Trident hosts career fair Wednesday for high school grads

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Graduation is on the horizon, and on Wednesday morning any high school graduates will have the chance to explore their post-grad options at a South Carolina Works Trident job fair.

Business and graduating high schoolers from Berkeley, Dorchester, and Charleston counties will all be at the Charleston Area Convention Center in North Charleston.

The event is called the “Your Next Steps” career fair, where those in attendance won’t just get the chance to meet with employers, but also can get access to resources like resume assistance.

The fair will be split into segments based on the industry; it includes seven main industries at Wednesday’s event.

The possible career paths include manufacturing, health care, hospitality and tourism, information technology, transportation and logistics, and construction. Some of the employers at the fair include businesses like Volvo Cars, the Medical University of South Carolina, and Coca-Cola.

The first part of Wednesday’s career fair is for any graduating high school senior, as they could have the chance to meet and interview with employers and explore in-demand career paths in the region.

Organizers want to remind folks to bring an updated resume, dress professionally, and be prepared for on-site interviews.

News 2 talked with job fair organizers ahead of the busy event on what to expect from the job options at Wednesday’s fair.

“These are career job opportunities, so we’re encouraging students who are looking to go ahead and start their careers now, to come and meet and interact with these companies, because these companies can provide training. They’re looking for high school graduates who are ready to enter the workforce. They have great pay, offer benefit packages, training, and career growth, and that’s the industries we’re focused on,” said Senior and Business Services Consultant for SC Department of Employment Workforce.

Wednesday’s job fair is for graduating seniors from 9 a.m. to 12 pm, pre-registration is required but you can fill it out at the event. Then from 1 pm to 3 pm, the job fair is open to the public.
