Man accused in deadly Morrison Drive hit and run expected to appear in bond court Thursday

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A bond hearing is set for the man arrested in connection to a hit and run on Morrison Drive that killed two twenty-year-old women this past weekend.

Max David Gentilin, 25, was arrested Wednesday after turning himself in.

The father of one of the two young women, Frank Zito, said he had a sense of relief following the arrest, but said nothing will bring back his daughter, Lizzy Zito.

Lizzy Zito was with her friend Arianna Gamber when they were hit by a car on Morrison Drive. Police believe it happened around 1:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. early Sunday morning. Then at 8:30 a.m., police said someone reported seeing two unconscious women near the roadway.

Authorities say the two victims were dead on the scene and then a search for the driver began.

Charleston Police said its major accident investigation team located a vehicle of interest near the collision scene. Investigators analyzed evidence from the scene, along with physical evidence from Gentilin’s vehicle, and concluded that he intentionally left the scene without calling for help for the two victims.

But new details emerged Wednesday as police told News 2 Gentilin turned himself in around 3:15 p.m. After Wednesday’s arrest, Gentilin will face a bond hearing on Thursday.

Gentilin is charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident causing death.
He is in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

After yesterday’s arrest Frank Zito, Lizzy’s father, said he wants the maximum sentence given to his daughter’s killer.

“For me, I have no sympathy for him because to me he was a monster what he did to these two beautiful girls, took their lives away. My daughter told my wife, ‘Mommy when I’m 23 I’m going to make you a grandma,’ that’s not going to happen. She was going to graduate next week and hold that title in her hand and take a picture, that’s not going to happen. So for what he’s done and all the lives he’s hurt here, I have no sympathy for him or his parents. So the sheriff called, and I want the maximum amount of time they can give,” said Zito.
