Search continues for ‘Bradley’ the monkey in Walterboro

WALTERBORO, S.C. (WCBD) – The search for the missing primate has continued into Sunday morning in the Walterboro area.

On Thursday, Bradley, a 15-year-old Japanese Macaque, escaped from his habitat where he has lived for almost six years in Walterboro.

The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office released Friday that the animal’s owner was searching for Brandley near Mallard Street.

Officials report that Bradley’s owner immediately contacted the Colleton County Animal Services (CCAS) when the primate escaped. However, at the time the owner felt he could catch the primate using his own resources.

As of 10:30 a.m., Sunday, May 26 Bradley is still loose in the Walterboro area, CCAS says.

“Animal Control and the Sheriff’s Office have received numerous tips as to Bradley’s location but
because of the attention this situation has caused on social media and news channels, people who are trying to get a look at Bradley are sadly hampering the owner’s efforts to catch him.”
said CCAS Director, Laura Clark.

Professionals have been hired to help bring Bradley home and the CCAS animal control team is also assisting in finding the primate, Clark added.

If anyone sees Bradley the Monkey, authorities ask you to please keep your distance and call 843-898-6113.

Officials say Bradley is not considered dangerous or aggressive to people or other animals but is still a wild animal and caution should always be used.
