Summerville man accused of killing co-worker with machete

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCDB) — North Charleston Police say they have arrested a man accused of fatally attacking another man with a machete.

Tyrone Clayton Campbell, 33, of Summerville, was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

The homicide occurred before 3 p.m. at a construction site on Trade Center Court. Investigators say Campbell and the victim got into an argument, which led to Campbell pushing the victim to the ground and attacking him with a machete.

Witnesses told police Campbell stood over the victim, swinging the machete around before putting the weapon in a bag and walking away. Police confronted Campbell after he left the scene.

He then pulled the machete out of the bag and refused to drop it. Officers subdued Campbell by tasing him, according to Harve Jacobs, spokesperson for North Charleston Police. Campbell and the victim were both temporary employees of a company, Jacobs said.

Campbell is held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
