1 dead after serious collision on Ashley Crossing Dr.
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston Police Department closed Ashley Crossing Drive for several hours after a serious motor vehicle accident on Saturday.
Charleston PD issued a traffic alert at 3:18 p.m., closing Ashley Crossing Drive to motorists between Beechwood Rd and Dogwood Rd.
Officials say the closure was a result of a single-vehicle collision, in which a vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a tree.
The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while investigators gathered evidence. According to CPD, witnesses say the vehicle was driving erratically before leaving the roadway and striking the tree.
The driver was the sole occupant and was pronounced dead at the scene.
CPD says MAIT investigators are working to determine what caused the driver to leave the roadway.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the identity of the deceased.
