Stolen car crashed into North Charleston apartment

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Police are looking for the person who crashed a possibly stolen car into a North Charleston apartment building.

Officers with the North Charleston Police Department responded to the scene on Mosstree Street around 11 a.m. Sunday to find a vehicle lodged in an apartment wall.

“The apartment was an efficiency apartment, and the location of the vehicle placed it directly on the resident’s bed,” officers said in an incident report obtained by News 2.

Officers said exposed wires were poking through the damaged steering column and loud music was still blaring from the speakers of the crashed car.

Police and emergency crews searched the apartment but did not locate anyone inside, the person driving the vehicle had fled the scene.

Witnesses told police the vehicle was driving erratically – around 50 mph – through the residential area before they heard it crash into the building. They provided a description of a person who walked away from the crash scene, but no arrests were made.

It is believed the vehicle was stolen out of Charleston.

The North Charleston Police Department is reviewing doorbell camera footage from neighboring buildings to identify the driver of the vehicle.
