2 SWAT members injured after being shot at in Summerville raid
SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) — Two Summerville Police SWAT team members were minorly injured during an investigation early Friday morning.
Around 6 a.m., the SWAT team performed a narcotics search of a home on North Maple Street. Investigators determined the house most likely had firearms and illegal narcotics, so the SWAT team was activated, according to Summerville police.
Team members knocked on the door of the residence and were shot at through the wall. Two team members were injured by shrapnel but were treated by EMS and released on the scene, police said. Agents did not return fire.
James Joseph Johnson was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of body armor by a felon, and PWID cocaine.
Johnson was taken to the Dorchester County Detention Center and is awaiting a bond hearing.
Police said agents recovered several firearms, one of which was stolen and illegal narcotics.
An investigation into this incident is ongoing.
