Charleston pilot among deceased in Maine plane crash

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A Charleston pilot was killed along with a passenger in a single-engine plane crash near a Maine airport on Thursday.

Officials have identified Michael Leibowitz, 71, of Charleston as the pilot.

The passenger was identified as Christina Chung, 57, of Livingston, NJ.

Maine State Police Troopers responded to the Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport in Trenton for a report of a plane crash around 12:25 p.m. Officials say the single-engine Cirrus SR22 aircraft caught fire upon impact and was destroyed.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.
