‘Flash flood emergency’ underway in Moncks Corner

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Dangerous flash flooding is underway in Moncks Corner early Friday morning with fast water rescues in progress.

Officials say as much as two to five inches of rain has fallen in the area since late Thursday evening on top of the nine to 17 inches of rain that has fallen over the past several days. It’s associated with Tropical Storm Debby.

“Widespread dangerous flash flooding is ongoing across the city of Moncks Corner. High water rescues are in progress and a life threatening situation is developing. Take action now,” officials said.

Berkeley County officials say multiple swift water rescue teams are responding to flooded areas.

An emergency shelter is open at Berkeley Middle School (320 N Live Oak Dr, Moncks Corner).

The following roads are closed or impassable due to flooding:

Shannonwood at Bradley Road

Shannonwood at Birchwood

Southbound Live Oak at Main St (Hwy 6)

The right lane traveling north on Live Oak between Bonnoitt and Main St. 

Merrimack and Hwy. 52

Heatley St. 

Winter Street between Main St and Bonnoitt St. 

Whitesville Road between Bonnoitt to Main St. 

Jolly Lane

Southbound Hwy. 52 at Mountain Pine

Northbound Hwy. 52 at Gaillard 

Hwy. 52 at Robinwood

Hwy. 52 at Wall St. 

Fennick Dr. 

Fairground Rd. 

Broughton Rd. Near California Ave

California Ave. 

Foxbank Plantation Blvd. between Trotters and Parker’s Kitchen
