Man injured in North Charleston officer-involved shooting

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities are investigating a Friday night officer involved shooting in North Charleston.

An officer with the North Charleston Police Department responded to the Big T’s on Stall Road shortly before 10 p.m. regarding a hit-and-run. While there, store patrons told the officer about a belligerent man waving a gun in front of the store, according to an agency spokesman.

The officer approached the male, and he began waving the gun in the air.

The man was asked to drop the gun; however, witnesses said he started pointing the gun at people in the parking lot and at the officer.

NCPD said the officer “fired his weapon and unknown number of times” and struck the suspect.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

The State Law Enforcement Division is on scene and will investigate.
