Dorchester District 2 will head back to class Wednesday
DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – After delays due to severe weather and flooding, students in Dorchester District 2 will return to class on Wednesday morning.
The district had originally scheduled its first day for August 8. Flooding caused by heavy rains and Tropical Storm Debby forced DD2 to push that date back several times.
The first day of school will be held on Wednesday, August 14.
District officials say the Ashley River and Edisto River receded over two feet, which the county’s emergency operations center believes would allow for runoff should there be additional rainfall.
They said all roads of major concern are beginning to clear or have been cleared. The district also noted that they do not expect Highway 165 to be an issue.
While the back of the Ashborough subdivision remains flooded Tuesday morning, school administrators and the district’s transportation team will work with families to assist in transportation and other arrangements.
All extracurricular and co-curricular activities resume normal schedules.
