Minivan flips over Interstate 95 onto Bells Hwy: Multiple critical injuries

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating after a van flipped over the I-95 embankment crashing head-on to Bells Hwy, resulting in multiple critical injuries.

Colleton County Fire-Rescue said the incident occurred Friday morning around 9:38 a.m.

A Toyota Sienna was traveling southbound leaving I-95 just before exit 57, they then drove behind a guardrail plummeting over the embankment and crashing onto Bells Hwy below the interstate.

Officials say the van then overturned receiving heavy damage. Four children and two adults from New Jersey occupied the van. All were unrestrained and injured.

One female child and an adult male received critical life-threatening injuries. An adult female received serious injuries. Three other male children received multiple non-life-threatening injuries.

Colleton County Fire-Rescue says the van did not strike any other vehicles on Bells Hwy.

All patients were treated at the scene by firefighters and paramedics.

Westbound traffic on Bells Hwy was disrupted for about an hour while emergency personnel assisted with the accident.
