Charleston International Airport implements new traffic patterns for temporary construction
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston International Airport will implement new traffic patterns as they make way for temporary construction.
The new traffic patterns will take effect on the evening of Monday, August 26, and last for three nights as part of the airport’s Parking Garage 3 project.
Airport officials say Whiting-Turner will oversee modifications to enhance traffic flow and improve overall airport operations.
On Monday, officials say the west entry of the traffic circle will be closed. Drivers will need to make a U-turn or turn right onto Dreamliner at the intersection of International and Porsche Boulevard to access the terminal.
According to the Charleston Airport, concrete jersey barriers will be installed along the loop road (indicated in blue in Figure 1) Construction will begin on a temporary road leading to the daily deck ticketing booth.
On Wednesday night (August 28), Whiting-Turner will block off the remaining sections of the traffic circle. Officials say this will necessitate reversing the passenger and rental car traffic patterns as shown in figure 2.
Airport officials advise travelers to arrive early and to follow posted detours and signage during the construction period.
