Driver dies after striking utility pole and tree in Colleton County

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal collision that resulted in one fatality after a vehicle struck a utility pole and a tree.

Troopers say the collision occurred Monday night around 8:23 p.m. on Jeffries Hwy near the intersection of Longleaf Dr. This was approximately half a mile north of Walterboro.

A 2021 Toyota sedan was traveling north on Jeffries Highway when it veered off the right side of the road, swerved back onto the road, then went off the left side, hitting a utility pole and a tree.

Officials report the driver died at the scene as a result of their injuries, they were the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The Colleton County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the name of the deceased.
