Clear the Shelters: Area animal shelters offering deals Saturday on pet adoptions
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Looking for a furry companion? Help us Clear the Shelters this weekend.
Each year, NBC stations across the country – including WCBD News 2 – team up with animal shelters for an annual event aimed at finding forever homes for dogs, cats, and other animals in need of adoption.
1,165 animals were adopted from our local shelters during August 2023. That means more than 1,000 new family members are out of a kennel and into home – and we’re hoping to increase that number this year.
News 2 is proud to partner with five of the Lowcountry’s largest shelters again this year, including Pet Helpers, Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary, Berkeley Animal Center, Charleston Animal Society, and Dorchester Paws.
These shelters will offer special deals and discounts through the Clear the Shelters campaign to encourage local adoptions and to help find a new home for each animal.

PET FEST
Join News 2 and Hanna Powers at The Wonderer for ‘Pet Fest‘ on Saturday afternoon. Animals from local shelters will be on hand for adoption, or guests can donate directly to the shelter to support their cause.
This year’s event will include a free live concert featuring music from Highwater Honky, a live DJ set, and more surprise performances. Expect a lineup of local vendors like Lilli Fuel, Playful Pack, Woof Gang Bakery, and many others.
Plus, you can sip on expertly crafted cocktails and indulge in delicious food options as you mingle with fellow Charleston’s pet lovers.
Proceeds from the day will directly benefit local shelters. Bring your friends and family and make a difference! Pet Fest runs from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 31.
