Man shot while doing yard work in Walterboro, deputies say
WALTERBORO, S.C. (WCBD) – A man was doing yard work outside a Walterboro home Tuesday when he was struck by gunfire.
Deputies with the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a location on Cleveland Street after receiving reports regarding a male gunshot victim.
The sheriff’s office said in a Wednesday morning update that the man was operating a weed eater when he was hit.
Witnesses told deputies that two unknown juveniles had briefly spoken with the man just before the shooting, and that gunshots were heard as they continued walking down the street.
Deputies say the two unknown juveniles were observed firing guns toward two intended victims. The suspects and the victims left the area before law enforcement was called.
The victim is in stable condition.
Law enforcement, including K9s, searched the area but did not locate the suspect. It’s believed the pair was picked up in a vehicle.
The sheriff’s office asks that anyone who lives in the areas of Cleveland Street, Red Comet, and King Street review their surveillance cameras to help law enforcement identify the individuals.
“Violence will not be tolerated and those involved in this incident will be held accountable,” the sheriff’s office said.
