Authorities respond to “security incident” at Naval Weapons Station

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Naval Weapons Station is on lockdown Friday while emergency crews respond to an “ongoing security incident,” officials with Joint Base Charleston said.

Security Forces responded to a domestic dispute in base housing around 10:45 a.m., and the Child Development Center, Marrington Elementary and Marrington Middle School were locked down.

Residents living on base housing were ordered to shelter in place.

Officers from the Goose Creek Police Department and Berkeley County deputies responded to the scene to assist.

“We take any threat to the safety and security of our installation seriously, and as such, we activated our established procedures to ensure the safety of our personnel and the surrounding community,” said the 628th Air Base Wing Public Affairs office.

This is a developing story.
