Eva Marcille is back in a role that hits close to home. In her latest film, Buried Alive and Survived, she stars alongside Tyler Lepley in a thriller inspired by true events. This emotional narrative dives into a terrifying story of survival against the odds, resonating deeply with audiences, especially those touched by domestic violence.

Marcille sat down with Ryan Cameron just before the premiere to talk about how deeply this role affected her. Having premiered on September 21 on Lifetime, the film has already garnered attention for its raw portrayal of strength and resilience. Marcille, a survivor of domestic violence herself, found the role profoundly personal and challenging, describing how she immersed herself so deeply into the character that stepping back into reality was a struggle.

The biggest challenge for me in this role was getting out of the character. Really. Yes. Getting into the character.  It was cathartic for me to do this project, having gone through domestic violence myself and having come out on the other side, not really ever dealing with that in therapy, though, I do go to therapy.

I remember telling a friend having to apologize to a friend of mine because I felt like I was moving meek for a couple of weeks after filming and I was still very timid and was tiptoeing around. And I remember my friends saying, like, do I intimidate you? Do I make you nervous or wrong? And I’m like no, I’m good. But I realize I was still Alicia. I was still a woman trying to figure out how not to mess anything up. How not to get in the way, how not to how to tiptoe in life. And that is not a way to live.
