Coroner identifies man pulled from Mount Pleasant retention pond

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – A 69-year-old man was pulled from a Mount Pleasant retention pond last week.

Charleston County Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal said Thomas Sharpe, of Mount Pleasant, was found in the pond at Paul Foster Road and Belle Pointe Road on the morning of October 4. She said the cause and manner of death are pending.

Mount Pleasant officers and assisting agencies responded to the pond around 8 a.m. after receiving reports of a male found dead in the water.

Photos shared with News 2 at the time show emergency crews with a large silver top near the water. Firefighters, investigators, and the coroner also responded to the scene.

A spokesperson for Mount Pleasant PD said in a Tuesday update that the investigation was active and added there did not appear to be a danger to the public.
