Deputies investigating report of shots fired near Georgetown County elementary school
GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities are investigating a report of shots fired near a Georgetown County elementary school on Tuesday morning.
Deputies with the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office responded to McDonald Elementary School where they said a suspect refused to leave school property.
The individual was detained and taken to the Georgetown County Detention Center. Officials said the suspect did admit to having a firearm, but claimed he threw it somewhere on school property.
Deputies and a K-9 team are searching for the firearm.
The sheriff’s office said the school is “on lockout but admitting students” and noted that it is operating normally.
