1 in custody after chase ends near Burger King on Rivers Avenue

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A man was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon following vehicle pursuits involving two agencies.

Officials with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office said deputies attempted to serve a warrant on an individual connected to a stalking case when an altercation ensued and the suspect took off.

There was a brief chase involving deputies; however, it was suspended in the West Ashley area and a “be on the lookout” was given to area law enforcement agencies.

Officers with the North Charleston Police Department later spotted the vehicle and began their own chase, which ended near a Burger King restaurant at Rivers Avenue and Hawthorne Drive.

Law enforcement officials said the chase ended in what was described as a “pit maneuver.” The tactic is used during a pursuit where the vehicle is turned sideways, causing the driver to lose control and stop.

Police say the suspect is in custody.
