North Charleston captain locates family’s dog after auto-pedestrian accident

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A family’s dog that ran off after a North Charleston auto-pedestrian crash has been safely located.

Officers with the North Charleston Police Department responded to the intersection of Ashley Phosphate Road and Stall Road on Tuesday night after a woman and her two children were struck by a tow truck while crossing the road.

The department said the family’s dog ran away from the scene.

“While other officers and emergency medical services attended to the victims, Captain Rick Keys searched for the dog,” the department said.

Capt. Keys found the dog in a motel parking lot and called out to it. “The dog ran straight to him,” NCPD added.

Police said the mother and her children are doing okay and have since been reunited with their pet.

The tow truck driver was charged with failure to yield to pedestrians.
