With few vacancies, CCSD to hold virtual hiring fair Wednesday afternoon

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston County School District on Thursday will give an update on what is happening within the district and how they have grown over the last year.

Superintendent Anita Huggins will give her first State of the District address since taking the reins at the beginning of the year.

While last year’s address was largely focused on the office of superintendent, with Dr. Eric Gallien still at the helm, we’re expecting Huggins to talk about some of the achievements made since she took over, and integral work in progress to advance outcomes for all students.

One major milestone the district has made this year is nearly eliminating the teacher shortage district-wide.

The board voted on teachers a pay bump this year making them the highest-paid teachers in South Carolina. The district currently has about 25 teacher vacancies, about nine of which are for resignations or retirements happening in the future, and those teachers are still in the classroom.

Charleston County schools will host a virtual hiring event on Wednesday from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. where people will be able to explore teaching positions and other jobs in the district. Be sure to have your resume ready, and you can sign up on the district’s website.
