Former Summerville Mayor Wiley Johnson passed away, town says

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – Summerville’s former mayor, Wiley Johnson, has passed away, the town announced Friday afternoon.

Johnson served as mayor from 2016 until 2020. He announced in July 2019 that he would not seek re-election.

Details about his passing were not immediately available; however, the town said Johnson passed away on Thursday.

Members of Summerville Town Council and current Mayor Russ Touchberry observed a moment of silence in his honor during a Thursday night council meeting.

Town officials say flags at all town buildings will be flown at half-staff until after Johnson’s funeral.
