Nike Merges Style & Comfort For New Women’s Only ‘Air Max Muse’ Silhouette
With the resurgence of early oughts running sneakers, Nike is ready to capitalize on that moment and hop into the space it helped cultivate.
Introducing the Air Max Muse. A brand new Air Max silhouette –exclusively for the ladies– that takes the functionality of sneakers and its incessant ability to be stylish and delivers it in the most comfortable and practical way possible.
For style, there’s the molded synthetic leather overlay in a striking metallic silver colorway that plays up on Nike’s futuristic technology but also shows the curved lines and prominent air unit that’s been synonymous with Nike for decades.
Beneath the bold shapes around the shoe is what appears to be a more flat, subdued black mesh for flexibility. More silver hits are seen in a mini swoosh on the medial and lateral upper, an ‘AM’ on the tongue, and the initials return again in black on the heel.
Nike also emphasized the air unit with a semi-gloss finish that stands out like some of its running models, like a less dramatized version of the Air Zoom Alphafly.
Plus, it’s all in the name of ultimate comfort, thanks to the Nike team using computational design to ensure that the new silhouette and its textures and shape are a pleasure to slide your feet into.
“This silhouette was designed to surprise women sneaker fans, capturing their attention and imagination with a new application of Air — something they’ve never seen before,” says Can Eldem, Nike’s Footwear Designer, Women’s Sportswear. “Our goal was to design an entirely new Air Max model focused on both expression and comfort, making the silhouette uniquely hers — sleek, beautiful and bold — while offering the kind of innovation and cushion that she expects from the Air Max franchise.”
The Air Max Muse isn’t just for casual wearers or those looking for the ideal footwear to complement their outfits—world-class athletes have also given them their stamp of approval.
Olympic gold medalist Jordan Chiles was the first person spotted wearing the Muse when she threw out the first pitch at a New York Mets game, and gold medal-winning Chinese tennis player Qinwen Zheng also wore them in the new campaign photos.
The Air Max Muse is expected to be released exclusively to select Nike account holders on Dec. 11 at a reported price of $160. The global launch on SNKRS is set for Jan.10, and more colorways will debut in 2025.
