Trial scheduled for Jamie Komoroski, woman accused in Folly Beach golf cart crash that killed new bride
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A trial for the woman accused of drunkenly crashing into a golf cart, killing a bride, and seriously injuring members of the wedding party on Folly Beach last year is scheduled to begin this week.
Jamie Lee Komoroski would be tried on three counts of felony DUI and one count of reckless homicide resulting in death for the crash that killed 34-year-old Samantha Miller on her wedding night and critically injured her new husband, Aric Hutchinson.
She was released from the Al Cannon Detention Center in March after Judge Michael Nettles set her bond at $150,000. Nettles initially denied bond in August 2023 but said he would grant bond under certain conditions if a trial did not take place by spring 2024.
Komoroski has been on house arrest and is only allowed to leave her home for medical emergencies or court orders. In addition, she has to wear a SCRAM monitor, which tests her sweat for alcohol.
Ninth Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson previously said it would have been “impossible” for both the prosecution and defense to be ready for a March trial.
The collision occurred on April 28, 2023, when Komoroski rear-ended a golf cart carrying Miller, Hutchinson, and two others, going 65 mph in a 25-mph zone.
Miller was pronounced deceased on the scene. According to a GoFundMe set up by Hutchinson’s mother, he received a brain injury and numerous broken bones from the collision.
Toxicology reports released by the State Law Enforcement Division showed Komoroski’s blood alcohol content at the time of the crash was more than three times the legal limit.
Hutchinson later filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Komoroski, claiming she was out ‘bar hopping’ before the deadly golf cart crash. That suit was recently settled, although Komoroski was not named in the settlement.
