Warming shelters open across Charleston area ahead of freezing temperatures

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — With temperatures expected to drop below freezing in the Lowcountry this week, several shelters will be open for those needing a warm place to stay.

Temperatures could dip into the lower 30s overnight Monday and continue to drop into the 20s through midday Wednesday, according to Storm Team 2.

The following warming centers will open on Monday:

Charleston County

Aldersgate UMC – 1444 Remount Road in North Charleston

The shelter operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a capacity of 75 people. Pets are not allowed. A hot meal, breakfast, a bag lunch, a hot shower, warm clothes, toiletries, and an optional devotion will be provided.

Admission takes place from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. The shelter closes at 7 a.m. the following morning.

Berkeley County

Goose Creek United Methodist Church – 142 Red Bank Road in Goose Creek

The shelter will be open to guests from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. A cot with linens and pillows, a hot dinner, and a to-go breakfast will be provided.

Guests can get transportation to the center by using the CARTA bus system.

Dorchester County

Seacoast Church Summerville – 301 E. 5th N. St. in Summerville

The shelter will open at 9 p.m. and close at 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. Pets are not allowed. A cot with linens and pillows, a hot dinner, and a to-go breakfast will be provided.
