Style Diary: What I Wore To Celebrate Tinder’s 2024 Year In Swipe

Tinder invited me to their Year In Swipe celebration at Jeans in New York, and it was an instant yes for me. I’m nosy, and I was looking forward to finding out what was happening on the dating apps in 2024, while I was out of the way. There was a ton of information about the hobbies and habits that are helping people couple up.

Choosing what to wear to learn about how people are “loud looking,” embracing “nano-ships,” and leaning into “kiss-met” moments was easy.

Suited Up For The Year In Swipe

I had a fun option I had been saving in my closet for the right winter invitation. The plan was to give “going out” energy without being chilly or uncomfortable. I paired an oversized printed blazer with a blurred zebra print from Eloquii with a mini skirt in the same print. The suit was a satin-like material that was thick enough to keep me warm without making the rising heat from the club unbearable. It slid right across the photobooth easily. Neither of the pieces had a bulky lining. I was comfortable listening to their resident relationship expert Devyn Simone share facts about the ways people are searching for love and lust with the swipe of a thumb.

Eloquii has become my go-to online retailer for plus-size fashion throughout the years. As plus-size fashion is deeply regressing, they’ve become even more crucial to my closet rotation.

I shop with them for everything from friends’ birthday brunches to red-carpet charity galas. They frequently have flash sales, and when they do I love to stock up on their suits and matching sets. They make me feel put together easily.

Prepared To Party

Clothing trends move as fast as dating trends, so it is also way easier to plan outfits in advance than to scramble looking for something at the last minute.

Many pieces in their collections complement one another as well, so you can mix and match them from season to season. I wore one of their sets in the Cayman Islands a few months ago. I loved the polish it brought to resort wear.

As a bonafide bridge and tunnel girl from New Jersey I’m big on animal prints. There’s something about them that just makes a look feel finished, but I never want them to look costumeish. There’s a fine line between the Nanny named Fran and the clown named Bozo. I’m not interested in crossing it. So, I tend to keep what I am wearing with a printed set pretty simple.

Underneath I wore a black bodysuit from Honeylove. I love their body suits because you don’t have to wear a bra with them. They are snug and comfortable without being restrictive. I opted to add a bra from Ashley underneath this time to provide an added lift and another layer between me and the New York chill.

I wore knee-high boots from Lane Bryant with a small buckle on the side. Like the suit, they had a slight sheen to them. The flexibility of the material allowed me to wear them slouchy and show a tiny bit more leg than I would have been able to if they were hard and stiff.

Black-Owned Finishing Touches

The most unexpected choice in my outfit was the addition of a lavender crossbody from Black accessories designer Maya Winston. Her bags are adorable and they’re great for night time or a quick errand.

I would normally wear a jewel tone with a black and white print. But I thought the pastel would pick up the purple hues in my matte lipstick from The Lip Bar. Their “drama queen” shade works great as a liner in a combination and on its own. I was tired so I lined my waterline with a liquid crème shadow from Apple Doll Cosmetics. A light dusting of glitter kept things festive. Seeing the shine of Angela Yee’s matching set made me feel even more on point.

The Maya Winston bag had gold hardware, so I wore gold hoop earrings.

I combed through my Indique bundles, smoothed it out with my chi iron, sharpened my millennial side-part and headed into the city. I picked up a surprise accessory at the party as everyone was offered pins where they had the chance to

The New York of Sex and The City doesn’t exist anymore, there’s not one hot spot that everyone gravitates to every night, except Jeans. Everytime I open TikTok or Instagram I see a group of New York twenty-somethings way trendier than I am spilling out of a rideshare to clink espresso martinis at Jeans and I can confirm the spot was as cute as everyone says it is. The room was drenched in a sexy shade of red.

If you can get a table there, I highly recommend it for your next date night. See all the details from Tinder’s Year In Swipe here.
