The 2025 Golden Globes delivered unforgettable moments and shattered records, making it a historic night for many TV shows and movies. Last night (Jan. 5), the 82nd Golden Globes aired on CBS. The awards ceremony was filled with moments to remember, fabulous gowns and tuxedos and an entertaining show thanks to this year’s host, comedian and entertainer Nikki Glaser.

Check out a few highlights of the historic wins below:

Hiroyuki Sanada made history by becoming the first Asian actor to win Best Actor in a Drama series for his role in “Shōgun.” His win marked a significant milestone for representation and recognition of Asian actors in dramatic storytelling. Fellow “Shōgun” cast member Tadanobu Asano also broke barriers, becoming the first Japanese actor and only the second Asian actor ever to win Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries, or TV Film.

Jeremy Allen White continued his streak of wins, securing a third consecutive win for Best Actor in a Comedy series for his role in “The Bear.” White joins legends Michael J. Fox and Alan Alda in this rare achievement.

In film, Fernanda Torres made a huge impact for her community as the first Brazilian actress to win Best Actress in a Drama Motion Picture for her performance in I’m Still Here. Her win highlighted the growing global influence of Brazilian cinema. Similarly, Sebastian Stan, born in Constanța, Romania, became the first Romanian actor to take home Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy/Musical for his role in A Different Man.

The night also celebrated trailblazing women, with Ali Wong becoming the first woman to win Best Performance in a Stand-Up Comedy category for her special Ali Wong: Single Lady. Actress and producer Viola Davis also joyfully accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her achievements in entertainment.

“This is a first award I was told that I won that made me cry,” Davis, told USA TODAY before receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Award at Friday night’s inaugural Golden Gala. “Little Viola showed up who just never could imagine that she could evolve into this life, into this career.

The 2025 Golden Globes ceremony put a spotlight on the power of storytelling, the people who create these stories, leaving audiences inspired and eager for the future of entertainment.
