Pastor Mike Todd Gets Real About Relationships, Boundaries & Singleness
Pastor Mike Todd gets candid with KeKe Palmer about all things relationships. In a sit-down on Palmer’s Baby, This is KeKe Palmer podcast, Todd broke down the importance of healing from traumas, having boundaries and flourishing in the season of singleness.
Last year, Todd, a New York Times bestselling author, released his latest paperback, “A Cup of Love.” He wrote the book with his 10-year-old daughter. It aims to teach children how to do relationships right. Todd believes when people are rejected at a young age, that spirit of rejection follows them into adulthood if they don’t deal with the issue head on.
“The truth of the matter is all of us are little kids trying to live in this adult world and if you don’t deal with the issues you had when you were 6, they just follow you until you’re 46,” he told Palmer.

That’s why Todd said it’s important to make sure your spirit is healthy, so when you do experience issues, you know how to harness the power of prayer to deal with whatever is plaguing you. He believes all of us are spiritual beings having an earthly experience and when you talk about your spirit, that’s who you are.
“It’s time for our generation to take more time and intention on feeding, actually building up and actually making sure our spirit is healthy,” he said.
Having boundaries is also another way to ensure your spirit stays healthy. Todd said often times people will get with someone who looks good, but realize down the line, they didn’t take the time to go deeper. He believes boundaries are a form of protection.
“Boundaries are a blessing and most people cannot see themselves giving somebody else their love or they really like a boundary that will allow them to have the space to grow into who they’re supposed to be,” he said. “So, a lot of times we’re playing house when there’s supposed to be a boundary.”

Todd told Palmer about the 10 month period in which him and his wife were not together. He said the people around him had him thinking he needed to experience something else. Todd said he had to grow up from a boy to a man to understand the treasure he had.
While he is coupled up, he believes singleness is a blessing because you can learn about how to love yourself. The season of singleness is all about preparation. Once you have a strong relationship with God, it changes the way you see yourself which changes the way in how you love.
