Twerking Flight Attendant Sets Up GoFundMe After Getting Fired
A GoFundMe is now set for a former flight attendant fired for twerking on the job.
According to the GoFundMe page, Nelle Diala says she was “wrongfully” fired from her job at Alaska Airlines after participating in a popular TikTok trend. In the clip, featuring the song “Ghetto” by E.K.E. featuring TruCarr, Diala is seen twerking on an empty plane.
Diala wrote in her original caption, “ghetto bih till i D-I-E, don’t let the uniform fool you,”per the New York Post.
After her firing, Diala wrote in an updated caption:
Can’t even be yourself anymore, without the world being so sensitive. What’s wrong with a little twerk before work, people act like they never did that before.
Diala claims that she recorded the video during a layover, celebrating her completion of the company’s probationary period. She described the job as her “ideal role” while supporting her entrepreneurial efforts in baked goods and lingerie.
The video went viral overnight, but instead of love and support, it brought unexpected scrutiny. Although it was a poor decision on my behalf I didn’t think it would cost me my dream job. My employer accused me of violating their social media policy. I explained that the video wasn’t intended to harm anyone or the company, but they didn’t want to listen. Without warning, they terminated me. No discussion, no chance to defend myself—and no chance for a thorough and proper investigation.
Diala set a goal of $12,000 to help her get back on her feet. As of this writing, she has raised only $1,876 towards her goal.
